what to do in Singapore

Enter my mate, who wants to remain incognito, who gives his two cents on what to do in Singapore with and without kids and family. His kids are 4 and 7 years old, and like myself, he himself has the maturity of about a 12 year old so should provide some good insight.

Farmart Centre –  In Kranji, it’s a bit out of the way and not that convenient but there’s a shuttle bus from Lot 1 Shopping Mall along Chua Chu Kang Avenue 4. Basically you can buy cheap farm produce and exotic goods like crocodile meat. The kids will love it for the bird shows, aquariums, prawning sessions and they can have a feed of the rabbits and goats.

Erskine Road – Haji lane is more popular but Erskine Road is also full of little quirky shops selling all types of different things.  Just on the outskirts of China Town, easy to get to and worth taking a look when you’re around that area.

Legoland – Actually in Malaysia but only a 20 minute drive from the Tuas checkpoint. Still, a bit of a pain to cross the border depending on what passport you have but if your kids are into lego this one might be worth all the effort.  For most though, a last resort when you’ve totally run of ideas for what to do in Singapore.

Port of Lost Wonder – A Pirate ship water adventure playground – say no more!  Apparently it closed down early this year but reopened due to a public backlash.  One of many things to do in Sentosa for kids.

Sungei Buloh – Wish we had time to go and check this out since Grobbler is in his reptile mania stage.  See mudskippers, crabs, shellfish, water snakes, birds, spiders, monitor lizards and otters. Different birds depending on the season. Next time

Macritchie Reservoir Treetop Walk – Note the opening hours – Tuesday – Friday: 9am – 5pm, Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays: 8.30 am – 5pm and closed on Mondays, except on Public Holidays.  The TreeTop Walk is the highlight of several long hiking routes in MacRitchie that brings you through the different stages of a mature secondary forest. Bring buckets of mosquito repellant and keep moving because they’re out in full force here

Arrive at the airport way early and check out the best airport in the world.  He says if you’re on a stopover and stuck for what to do in Singapore, forget about going into the city and just hang out at the airport.  Yes, it really is that good.  It’s got a swimming pool,  24 hour movie theatre, 5 nature trails and a butterfly garden and of course, shitloads of shops.
