Maldives

Without doubt and by a country mile, the best beach destination we've been to, and the best place to go if you want to do absolutely nothing in style.

We’ve been to the Maldives twice and if it wasn’t so expensive, we’d probably go every year, at least I would!  This is one of the few places that actually looks better in person than the photographs and whilst you can stay at cheaper places nowadays, I highly recommend you reach deep into your wallet, suck it up and just go for broke on the accommodation.  This isn’t a place to slum it so if you’re a budget traveler, this is probably not the place for you.

You won’t find any McDonald’s here, each hotel is basically on it’s own Island so you’re never going to get shitloads of people and that’s the best thing about the Maldives. If you like beach holidays and your idea of the perfect holiday is sitting on a beach doing absolutely stuff all, the Maldives is the place to go.

MaldivesIt’s a bit of a journey to get there, but it includes a seaplane trip, which the kids will enjoy, unless you stay at one of the resorts near Male, in which case you’ll be taken their by speedboat.  Going from Hong Kong, if you fly direct on Cathay, you have no choice but to stay the night in Male, I’d think about flying via Singapore or Bangkok.

The Maldives is all about relaxation and literally getting away from it all.  This is my second favourite place in the world, and my favourite beach holiday by a long, long way.  Nothing beats it or even comes close, and if you’ve been working yourself to death or feeling majorly stressed out, a trip here will fix that very fast.  Make sure get here once in your life time.

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas

It’s been a few years since we stayed at the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas but this was one of the most memorable holidays I’ve still ever had.  If you look at pretty much any half decent resort in the Maldives, all of them get high reviews so it’s pretty easy to pick a resort to stay in the Maldives and know …

Malé Airport Hotel

To clarify, there’s no hotel actually called Male Airport Hotel, for this review, the Male Airport Hotel is essentially the Airport Alba Inn, which is about a 5-10 minute drive from Male Airport.  There’s no hotels inside Male Airport and all of the ones that call themselves Male Airport Hotel are about the same distance.  First think you should know, and I’ve …

Niyama Maldives

We stayed at Niyama Maldives on our second trip to the Maldives. As with our first visit, the Maldives is absolutely spectacular and if you want a beach holiday, the Maldives is the best place to go in my opinion. The over water villa at Niyama Maldives was big but not as big as the one we stayed at during our …

Somerset Hotel Male

The Somerset Hotel Male is quite nice and a good choice if you have a late night arrival flight or early morning departure flight from Male Airport and need to stay a night in Male city.  Male city itself is nothing special, not much to see or do here with the exception of some crap, over prices souvenir shops and a …
