At Residence Suvarnabhumi Hotel Bangkok

Great little boutique style hotel near Suvarnabhumi Airport, definitely worth a stay if you're wanting to stay around that area

Stayed at At Residence Suvarnabhumi for one night and can highly recommend it.  We were on a short four night trip to Bangkok and had organised some fishing near the airport so decided to one night here rather than spend 1-2 hours driving each way into the city to get to/from Silom Serene Hotel on Silom Soi 3.  This is a neat little place with some basic rooms as well as some nice cottages.  Because I’d booked Silom Serene Hotel for 3 nights for bugger all, I decided to get a cottage which worked to be about HKD$500 per night, one of the more expensive rooms but still pretty cheap.

At Residence Suvarnabhumi is about 15 minutes from the Airport on Lat Krabang Road.  It’s convenient but be warned, Lat Krabang can get very, very busy during peak hours so even though it’s not far from the airport, you could spend a long time getting there.  We arrived around 4:30p.m and the first thing At Residence Suvarnabhumi fucked up was the transfer.  I’d pre-booked a transfer from airport to hotel, confirmed it the day before. They give you some numbers to call when you arrive and they said they’d send someone over.  I stated on at least two separate occasions that we wouldn’t be long once the flight arrived as we had no check-in luggage and would be going through Fast Track immigration.

As soon as we landed I called At Residence Suvarnabhumi, told them we ‘d be 15 minutes and they said okay they’ll send someone.  Got out to Gate 4, where they tell you to meet, no sign of the driver or car, called the hotel again and they said “oh, let me try and find driver”. So basically they didn’t send anybody.  Pretty poor since I’d reconfirmed it twice before arrival, and called when we landed.  Piss poor actually.  Ended up waiting 15-20 minutes so complete waste of time from At Residence Suvarnabhumi.

Got to the hotel and no apology, absolutely clueless. Other than that, staff were nice, quick check in was fast.  Now for the rooms at At Residence Suvarnabhumi.  As mentioned we booked a cottage, or Villa I think they call it. It’s basically a two storey little cottage type thing that’s actually pretty small and not much floor space. It’s got a double bed, tiny kitchen and bathroom downstairs and cool little top floor with one bed that’s ideal for kids. It’s quite cute but don’t think I’d want to stay longer than one night.

And whilst the kids will think the upstairs bed is cool, it’s about 10 degrees hotter up there and even with the air conditioning on, it’s basically too hot to sleep so effectively renders it useless. There is a fan up there but it’s noisy and also basically useless.  The bed was comfy but the room’s a bit dark.  Don’t leave anything sweet or edible or or you’ll have an ant invasion.  They’re small and harmless but they’re all over the place. Not a deal breaker as long as you don’t have anything sweet that’s not wrapped.

Shower at At Residence Suvarnabhumi is okay, bathroom is on the small side but nothing too bad.  They give you a couple of bottles of free water and some cup noodles and there’s also a little local convenience store at the entrance of the hotel that sells all kinds of shit.  Some big malls are nearby but probably the best thing about At Residence Suvarnabhumi is the food. There’s a great little restaurant in the hotel that serves up a wicked milkshake and some really nice, cheapish Thai food.  I might even stay here just to eat the food. The breakfast was pretty ordinary, typical thai eggs and not crispy bacon type thing but the dinners were awesome.  If you need a place to stay near the airport for a night, At Residence Suvarnabhumi is a good choice, just don’t rely on their airport pickup service as it’s non existent and not reliable.
