Novotel Bali Airport Hotel

Mostly a nice, clean and convenient hotel if you need to stay a night at Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar, Bali)

Stayed a night at the Novotel Bali Airport Hotel (official name is Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport) on ou way to Komodo.  This cost us only around HKD$750 for the night and is walking distance from Denpasar International Airport.  We arrived around 530p.m and left early morning but I imagine you’re not going to be staying here for days on end and want to know if it’s fine for a nights stay between flights/transit.

Directions to Novotel Bali Airport

Took about 5-10 minutes to walk from International.  Pretty sure there’s a faster way to Novotel Bali Airport Hotel but we just walked out the departure gates, onto where the taxi’s and touts were and just walked left.  Follow your nose. Of note, is we did see a sign fro Airport Hotel, advertising that it was the only hotel in the airport. There’s no mention of it online but if you do enough googling you might find something else if you want an alternative to Novotel Bali Airport Hotel.

Reception

Check in was long and painful. Only a few people in front of us, but the whole process took about 20 minutes.  Some Asian peasant just cut in front of us and I did my scone at the front desk staff telling them they should know what a line is for. After my little tantrum the entire front desk crew looked like they were going to crap their pants.  20 minutes later, when the guy gave me the room key, he did apologise and said he gave his a room upgrade to a suite, which ordinarily would be awesome, but they know you’re only there for a night and can’t make the most of it so it’s a bit pointless.

Novotel Bali Airport Hotel Suite

The room was big, reasonably nice, bit like you’d expect from a Novotel, nice and solid, nothing too fancy, but definitely quite okay and more than acceptable for a nights stay.  It was even more pointless having a suite at the Novotel Bali Airport Hotel because the dude at reception only gave us one room key and you needed two if you wanted lights and electricity in both of them as one room had obviously been turned into a living room.  Normally I could have just stuck a credit card in but I was worried I’d forget it in the morning so didn’t bother.

Bed at Denpasar Airport Hotel

Anyway, rooms at Novotel Bali Airport Hotel were overall good.  Shower with no door which I don’t like and water pressure wasn’t great, sink wa a bit small but nothing that bad.  Beds were nice and comfy. There were a whole lot of tiny bug things, looked like dead sandflies in the sink, and the towels stunk.  Also I think there were bed bugs as I was itching in bed and could feel little bite marks all over me. Worst was the smelly towels, they obviously hadn’t washed them and the shower mat also had stains on it.

Bathroom

Because check-in took an eternity at Novotel Bali Airport Hotel we went straight to dinner. Ordered a couple of Mee Goreng’s in the rather large restaurant. The whole of Novotel Bali Airport Hotel is a bit of weird layout but anyway, those two dishes were actually pretty good and I had a wickedly good Passionfruit Soda thing.  One of the best I’ve ever had. Whole meal cost around 270,000,000 Rupees so pretty good.

Room

We went back in the morning and had breakfast. Pretty good selection of both western and asian. Egg station was quick, friendly and pretty good.  Pretty difficult to cock up scrambled eggs. Chicken bacon was a shocker, just have a look at the photo and you’ll know why but there’s plenty of other stuff for you to eat for breakfast and the fruit selection was good.  Not the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had but not the worst. Worth the 165,000 Rupee it cost.

Breakfast

Checking out was a lot better than checking in, partly because I paid for the room while checking in.  Nothing to settle so was fast and I made sure I paid for the dinners in cash as they were cheap. Overall the Novotel Bali Airport Hotel is fine for a night or even two. I’d have no problems staying there and apart from the slow check in and smelly towels, nothing to complain about.  There was also a nice pool and for the price, even if you’re just looking for somewhere to rest, this would be good.

If you have a domestic flight as we did to Lubuan Bajo, you can only go through the connecting indoor entrance if you have a boarding passport. If you don’t, head downstairs, outside and take the road to the domestic airport, which is a few minutes away.  You can read more about our flight to Lubuan Bajo in our things to know section.
