Sydney with Kids

The typical stuff to do in Sydney with kids is the same old, same old – zoo, aquarium etc..etc. All a bit ho hum.  The Royal Botanic Gardens are great for running around, rolling down hills and generally going mad and running around as fast and as far as you can, until you get so tired you can’t walk back to the hotel.

Wee’d down with rain at the SeaLife Sydney Aquarium and waited about 30 minutes to get inside with massive lines.  There was no cover until you get near the ticket office, by which time you’re soaked.  This is a very small aquarium and not worth the 30 minute wait, not sure what was going on with that, but pretty poorly organised and the whole experience was stink.  I don’t think I’d go back even it was free. If you’re in Sydney with kids and they absolutely love sea creatures, then I guess it’s worth a visit but prepare for a long wait to get in and a pretty ordinary display of sea creatures.

Next up on my list of things to do in Sydney with kids was Taronga Zoo. This was probably one of the better things to do with kids in Sydney and the zoo was pretty good.  You get a ferry which come quite often and it’s nice short ride out to the zoo, followed by a short ride up a Gondola.  It’s nice looking at the animals with the city in the background.  It’s open from 9:30 every day but closes around 4-5, depending on the time of year.  You can check out more about opening hours and how to get there on their website here.

When you’re over in Darling Harbour, check out the kids playground there, it’s new(ish) and has loads of good stuff including flying fox, swinging chairs, rope structures and other cool things. I spent the first half an hour in a tizz because Dad tried to force me to do the flying fox when Iw as quite happy playing on the swing.  Other than that, had a great time and you will too.  I guess while you’re there, you could check out the Chinese Garden of Friendship nearby.  Living in Hong Kong we gave it a miss but by most accounts it’s not bad.

That’s pretty much all we did so check out Toucan’s Map of Wickedness for a few more things to do in Sydney with kids that came highly recommended by one of Dad’s mates living in Sydney.
