Niagara Falls, USA and Canada

Niagara Falls Canada

Since I stayed on the Canadian side, most of the info within these pages focus on Niagara Falls Canada but you can also check out the USA side and things to do.

Many people don’t know, as I didn’t when I went there a long time ago, Niagara Falls is a small Canadian city next to the actual Niagara Falls, which is on the west side and has views of the horseshoe falls, which are the largest section.  Niagara Falls is actually the name for three waterfalls, the Horseshoe, American and Bridal Veil falls. The horseshoe falls is on the border of USA and Canada, and the other two are on the American side. You’ll obviously need a passport for the USA if you’re on the Canada side and wanting to get to the American side.

The Maiden in the Mist now goes from the USA side, so take that into consideration.  You also need to check operating times and opening times for many of the attractions and things to do around the area as many of them close during the off peak season (which is most of the year). Even in the peak season, it can get a bit cold if you’re not used to it so bring warm clothes.  Although the Maid of the Mist is now on the USA side, they have the HornBlower on the Canadian Side. This also has tours at night where they illuminate the falls and it looks pretty cool.

Pick a hotel  in Niagara Falls Canada that has views of the falls and make sure to choose a room with the view. Of course they’re more expensive but unless you’re from the states, you’re most likely only going to go there once so you might as well make it worth while.  The hotels aren’t that expensive although during the high season some of the top ones can get a little pricey, but that’s not different to any city.
