No waka’s visiting Hawaii with kids. They’re going to have a great time whether it’s playing around the hotel pool or at the beach in perfect weather, there’s plenty of things to do in Hawaii with kids that will keep them entertained.
Waikiki Aquarium – Being in Hawaii you might expect this to be something special but don’t get your hopes up. It’s rather small and while the fish they do have here are quite cool, it’s somewhere near the bottom of my list of aquariums I’ve seen around the world. It’s walking distance from Waikiki, and probably okay if you have younger kids (like 1-3) but for older kids it’s really a bit stink. If you have nothing to do and are sick of the beach, it’s probably worth checking out, you cam get through it in about 15 minutes so with the walk, an ok way to waste an hour.
Honolulu Zoo – Much like the Aquarium, this is rather small but if you have nothing better to do and have run out of things to do in Hawaii with kids, than I guess it’s worth a visit. One TripAdvisor reviewer stated this was the best thing he did on his honeymoon in Hawaii. I guess his wife must not have been much fun and they didn’t get out much. Anyway, the keep the animals in acceptable enclosures and it’s generally clean and well maintained.
Atlantis Submarine – Mixed reports here. If you ever want to have a wee giggle just check out the reviews of pretty much anything on TripAdvisor. You’ll read reports of people crying at how majestic a garden was, getting themselves in a right state about how little french fries they got served, and thinking it’s the end of the world because some of the instructions were in Japanese at the Atlantis Submarine adventure. Anyway, I wouldn’t go rushing out of your hotel to give this a go, but it’s novel experience for kids and if you happen to get it when the water is clear, it can be alright. It’s a battery powered submarine to some fake reefs, so as long as you don’t expect to be busting through some ice to see polar bears, you should be ok (lower your expectations).
