A pretty good mixture of things to do in Honolulu for both adults and kids, the fit and the couch potatoes, the adventurous and not so.
Diamond Head – An easy hike or rather walk up some stairs (unless you’re 350 pounds and find walking down to McDonalds at the end of the street difficult), Diamond Head is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Hawaii and provides some nice views overlooking Honolulu and Waikiki. If you’re into hiking, there’s bigger and better ones to do, but for the average person just looking to get some exercise, the walk up Diamond Head is alright. For this reason, it can get pretty busy, especially late morning and after lunch so if you’re looking to get away from the crowds in Waikiki, this is not really the place to do it unless you go very early morning and even then it can get quite busy with people trying to catch the sunset.
Pearl Harbour – I still remember most of this, and how my Dad spent way too long reading every single sign and piece of information about the history of Peal Harbour. It’s interesting for sure, and worth going to do, but younger kids will get bored quite quickly with it all. Maybe one of, if not the most famous battle sites in the world, there’s a few different tours you can do of Pearl Harbour all of which are usually rather crowded.
If you go in it, understand there’s five different historic sites here; the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri Memorial, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, The Pacific Aviation Museum and USS Oklahoma Memorial. Pearl Harbor is still an active US Naval base and they’ve beefed up security here. That means handbags, back packs, camera bags, luggage and any other things that you can hide shit on are banned.
Of course, Waikiki beach is on pretty much every things to do in Honolulu list. There’s several sections to it (which you can find more about in our You Should Know This Section) but the main bit has some nice calm areas for younger kids and families to swim in. I remember my bro taking me body surfing and getting absolutely smashed into the beach by a big wave and having sand in every orifice for weeks afterwards. The snorkeling is alright but there’s better places to snorkel in Oahu.
