A lot of great places to visit in Delhi, it’s just a matter of choosing which ones and in what order you’re going to visit them.
One of the first places to visit in Delhi would be the Red Fort, a massive red sandstoned fort built in 1638. It’s open everyday except Mondays from sunrise to sunset and costs 500 rupees for foreigners. Be careful at the ticket office because they will test you out and not give you any change unless you ask for it. Locals are 35 rupee, so don’t get all upset if you someone else paying less. Rather than me try to describe it, just go there, it’s well worth it and definitely should be in anybody’s list of places to visit in Delhi.
Near the Red Fort is Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest markets in Delhi. It’s sensory overload and can be overwhelming if you go when it’s busy, which is apparently most of the time. If you haven’t travelled much and/or come from a small town, your eyes might very well pop out of your head! It’s full on but you have to go and see it to experience what Delhi is really like.
Akshardham is what they call a Mandir, something like a house or worship and place where you go to learn and be spiritual. Even if you think God and religion is a load of bollocks like I do, you’ll still appreciate it and don’t need to be religious at all to see why this is special. It’s got to be on your list of places to visit in Delhi and if you can catch it at the right time with not that many people, it’s pretty awesome.
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Sikh house of worship is another beautiful piece of architecture and well worth a visit.
