Nara Park Deer Attack

Like all places in Japan, Nara with kids is easy peasy.  Nara was one of my favourite holidays and we spent ages in the park feeding deer and making friends with them, well all apart from one. Beware of one sucker deer who hangs out near the Ukimodo Pavilion.  Now to be fair we ventured inside the fences on the hill about Ukimodo Pavilion that perhaps were a sign that mad deer were inside. There were no signs saying don’t enter but the area wasn’t really one that most people go into. Me, Mum and Dad skunked around there when suddenly, out of nowhere, a damn deer charged at me! Luckily, the sucker somehow stopped just before charging into my head. I held my ground and was real brave, Dad will tell you that I didn’t even know what was coming and had no time to react, but I swear on Batman’s bum that I was willing to go toe to toe with that damn deer. Anyway, be careful of the deer, even the ones that roam around in places where everyone goes can get a little frisky.

I also had a wicked time at Keihanna Commemorative Park, where I burned along the flying fox, became Jack Sparrow on the fort and pretended to do massively powerful farts on mum and dad from the top, had great fun feeding the fish and in general had a ball running all over the park, across the rock steps and in amongst the flower gardens.   Dad got his angry on as usual because I refused to stay still for photos.  Honestly dad, enough is enough with the photos!

Nara With Kids

Other than that, there’s not a whole lot of kids specific attractions like theme parks and zoos and other things to do in Nara with kids, but being Japan, you can always find a wicked kids playground not far away, we stopped by at a pretty good one on the way back to Osaka, check out Nara Kenei Umamikyuryo Park, (sorry, all in Japanese, but try Google Translate) where I did some leaf sweeping, had a good play at the playground and had a great time just wombling around doing what I normally do having fun.
