If you’re looking for things to do in Maldives, consider this – you should come for the relaxation and literally, to get away from it all. Yes, there’s the obligatory water activities but when you get into your over the water villa, you most probably won’t want to leave and you’ll stop looking for things to do in Maldives. The first time we went we did a bit of a snorkelling which was good but not blow your mind good, and probably one of the few minor disappointments of the entire trip. I guess it’s expectations vs reality and I had high expectations that the snorkelling would be amazing. I think you need to pick the right resort for that. Waking up and having large breakfasts, swimming in your private villa over the sea, the occasional walk to the beach and sunset strolls are pretty much all you need to do here, there’s no attractions, landmarks or anything like that and that’s the whole beauty of going there.
At the both the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas and Niyama Resort you can ride bikes around the island, which doesn’t sound all that exciting but when you do it in Maldives, there’s something about it that makes it feel unique, perhaps because you’re on a private island and there’s no other way to get around other than buggies or golf carts.
One our second trip to Niyama Resort there were these Seabobs – little motorised things you could ride the water with, they don’t go that fast and it takes a bit of effort to hold on and power them (which you won’t be used to). You can go under water with them or just ride on the surface, either way you need a bit of muscle and it’s a bit of hard work, especially if you’re not that fit. As far as things to do in Maldives goes, that’s about it.
We also did a fishing trip, this was more for kids, but Grobbler caught a fish and was over the moon. You can take longer fishing trips but our one was around sunset and lasted an hour and a bit, perfect amount of time for kids.
Hang out in your over the water Villa, take lazy morning strolls along the beach and stuff yourself with food. Relaxing holidays in luxury accommodation don’t come any better than this.
