The ANA Intercontinental Ishigaki has a good little grass area for kids to play on and it’s a pretty good resort if you’re looking for things to do in Ishigaki with kids. Ok the staff are a bit miserable, and the pool is only waist deep (so no torpedo’s) but if you walk down to the beach you can have a go on their bouncy water thing. It’s basically like Core Hong Kong. Grobbler probably could have spent 4 days just on that if not for the weather. Not much else at the resort to do. The swimming pools would be much better if they were deeper as they have a slide there. They’re okay but better suited to babies and toddles, not really 4-5 yrs up although they can still have a bit of swim.
You can take your kids to Taketomi Island and Kabira Bay and they’ll be happy there, you can read more about those in our things to do in Ishigaki guide. Grobber particularly liked Taketomi Island and spent hours with hermit crabs and just wandering there having a good time and entertaining himself. Kabira Bay wasn’t that great because of the weather, it was warm and sunny but windy with the incoming Typhoon so couldn’t really have a decent swim and the water wasn’t that clear. However having said that he also spent a lot of time hunting for crabs and other sea creatures a bit up from where the main beach is.
In terms of other things to do in Ishigaki with kids that don’t involve water, well I don’t really know what there is. We went to the lookout, but Grobbler has packed one of his rare sad’s about something and wasn’t that interested in it, which you can’t really blame him for because there’s nothing to do there except look at the view.
