As far as things to do in Da Nang go, there’s really bugger all apart from the Marble Mountains and golf, which you won’t be doing much of if it rains the whole time like it did when we went.
The InterContinental Da Nang has a long list of activities to keep kids busy so if you happen to stay there, you’ll be right for a few days without even leaving the hotel. Within the hotel there’s probably more things to do than things to do in Da Nang as a whole. Around the hotel there’s some good paths that can either be hiked or you can rent a motorcycle and drive up. This is called Monkey Mountain. We didn’t do either because it rained most of the time. Apparently some good views and monkeys to be seen.
Outside the hotel, everybody, and I mean every single local and tourist seem to descend upon the marble mountains in the mid morning. The Marble Mountains are one everybody’s list of things to do in Da Nang and are basically a group of 5 limestone and marble “hills” near Da Nang city. All the mountains (not really mountains in the true sense of the meaning) have caves and entrances and some tunnels. Yeah it’s worth going to take a look. If you venture down into the smaller tunnels, it’s a bit scary, not like shit your pants scary, more like a bit spooky, especially when you see some of the nasty looking devil statues down there. If you have younger kids that get freaked out easily, they might pack a sad and you’ll end up having to carry them back up. Inside the caves is actually pretty interesting but unless you’re really into caves and creepy looking statues, an hour is more than enough time. We only went into the main one – Am Phu Cave, and didn’t bother with the others, which are probably same, same. If it’s raining, bring some good footwear with traction because it can get a bit slipper inside and outside turns to mud. Anyway again, the marble mountains are definitely worth a visit and probably, outside of golf, one of the best things to do in Da Nang. Not outstanding, more like one of the best things to do in Da Nang due the fact there’s bugger all else to do.
Wife and Grandma took a trip down to Hoi An, which I’ve heard is nice, but they didn’t think much of it. I can’t comment on that. Again, it was raining or drizzling so probably put a bit of a dampener on things. If you have a Google of things to do in Da Nang, you can see not much comes up. I’d recommend it for a golfing trip, long weekend (3 day) holiday where all you want to do is sloth by the hotel swimming pool and not leave your villa unless absolutely necessary! Hopefully the weather will be better for you than the 3 days of crap we had!
