Bohol, Philippines

After I dropped my Sony FDR X-3000 and found it subsequently only focused up close, and the repair bill was going to cost HKD$1,200 (which is about half of which you can buy a new one for), I decided to dump the action cam and get myself an underwater camera.  The most recommended is the Oylmpus Tough TG-5 and most of the photos taken in our Bohol pages were with that. It’s a fun little camera, understandably the low light capabilities aren’t great but that’s not what this camera is for so this can be forgiven.  It shoots in 4K at 30p and has a FHD 120p slow motion mode and overall, I enjoy this more than either the GoPro or Sony FDR-X3000 which both feel a little silly to hold and are not really stills cameras.

I also took the amazing Insta360 One X, which is by far, with the exception of the post editing process, a much better all-round option for creating videos as compared to the either a GoPro or other action cam.  360 Video cameras still have a long way to go but the things you can do with the Insta360 One X are incredible and will give your videos something special. The editing process is a bit of a nightmare, especially if you take videos longer than about 30 seconds, and even with a decent machine (I have the Microsoft Surface Book 2 fully-spec’d), because it out puts 5.7K video, the lag is shocking and makes editing almost impossible and extremely slow at best.  If you do shorter clips, say 10-20 seconds, this makes things a little easier.  Full review coming of the Insta360 One X.

Anyway there’s not much to shoot here in Bohol, maybe the chocolate hills, so it’s just going to be holiday snapshots.  It’s all about the beach so like I suggested, take an underwater camera or waterproof camera, or at the least a waterproof case for your phone and snap away.
