Located right in Central/Admiralty, Hong Kong Park is quite nicely done as far as Hong Kong parks goes. It’s not worth making a special trip to just to see it, but if you’re around the area and want to have a bit of a break from the concrete jungle, it’s a somewhat nice little oasis in the middle of the city.
When you think “park” and if you’ve grown up or lived in the West or Oceania or actually most places outside Hong Kong, you thnk green grass, open spaces and the like. This doesn’t apply to Hong Kong where a Park has different meaning and is usually just a bit of a space with concrete. If there is grass, it’ll often be covered in dog shit, off limits, or no fun will be allowed on it. If you think I’m exaggerating, I’m not, unfortunately.
There’s no grass areas at Hong Kong Park where your kids can roam around and have a good time (and if there was I’m sure the Hong Kong Fun Police would prevent that) but there’s some ok walking tracks, a pond with some fish and turtles and an aviary that he kids will probably enjoy. There’s also a playground with a sand pit, again it’s ok and pretty typical by Hong Kong standards but this is mosquito heaven so bring mosquito repellant and cover up.
There’s a mediocre restaurant in the middle of the park that serves up some asian fusion style food. It’s cheap, nothing great but alright if you just want to fill a gap. That can often have functions and things going on but you can head to Pacific Place for something else to eat, plenty of options there and the shopping is alright. There’s also a little kiosk selling snacks and ice creams and the like.
Trying to be positive, Hong Kong Park would be a good little place to take the kids for an hour or two to give them some entertainment. You’re not supposed to feed the fish (but we do) and you can’t scooter, bike or anything like that. From Hong Kong Park, you can walk up to the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens, which are alright, and again, a good way to give the kids an hour two of entertainment.
