Fuji Industrial 400 35mm Film

Made for the Japanese market but widely available in Hong Kong, this is an excellent film that won't break the bank.

Because of it’s cheapness, Fuji Industrial 400 (technically Fujicolour Industrial 400) has been my go to colour 35 film when I’m just out shooting snap shots of my son.  Some say it’s got an oversaturated red colour but I’ve never noticed that.   That either proves my eyes are farked, or each person sees things differently. Probably a bit of both. To me, they’re not the best colours in the world and I’ve seen better or rather, colours more to my liking, but for the price (HKD$45 at my favourite film shop in Hong Kong), it’s not worth spending double that on a so called Professional grade film, something like Fuji Pro 400H, for example.

The box is all in Japanese, and as mentioned, it’s supposedly a Japan only film, but almost every film shop in Hong Kong that I know of has loads in stock.  It’s easy to get, easy to shoot with and easy on the wallet. You can’t ask for more than that except great image quality and look, and it ticks that box for me too.  If I compare most of the photos I’ve shot with Fuji Industrial to the much more expensive Fuji Pro 400H, I’d struggle to tell the difference. Again, that could just be because I have no eye for photography (highly likely), but I’d put money on 99% of the people who shoot film to also not be able to tell the difference for every day shots.

Anyway, here’s some samples of Fuji Industrial 400, mostly shot on my Leica M6 with 35 Summicron V3, a few shot with my Leica MP 35 Summicron V4.
