By no means a definitive guide to film camera shops in Singapore but it’s a start and the ones listed hereafter seem to be the best ones according to a mate in Singapore. There’s an area around St Andrews Cathedral, near the intersection of North Bridge Road and Coleman Street where there’s a couple of malls opposite from one another. One is Peninsula Plaza and across the street is Peninsula Shopping Centre.
Stay away from Peninsula Plaza, which has Treasurelux Photo Store Singapore on the outside. There is the world’s biggest asshole standing outside trying to get you in. Here is my review of Treasurelux Photo Store Singapore. There’s also another camera shop inside called Cathay Photo, that’s digital, this camera shop in Singapore is quite large, with two different shops, one for digital and one for accessories and what seems to be more video equipment. I didn’t have a good look. Other than, if you’re looking for Film Camera Shops in Singapore, give Peninsula Plaza a miss and head over the road to Peninsula Shopping Centre.
Peninsula Shopping centre is where a lot of the Film Camera Shops in Singapore seem to be based with a bunch of shops. The mall is a bit reminiscent of Champagne Court in Hong Kong, run down and old but full of some goodies. See the photos of some of the shops in there, one in particular, Black Market Camera, has a large selection of film cameras, lenses and everything film. Unfortunately it was closed when I went there and I couldn’t be biffed waiting around until it opened at 12:30.
Other Film Camera Shops in Singapore in Peninsula Shopping Centre include P&G Photographic Centre, again closed when I went around noon on Saturday, BenPhoto trading, SLR Revolution, Cam-X Camera Exchange and Repair, The Camera Workshop and Riceball, who sell accessories for Leica. There’s also Camera Talk PTE outside the mall but the best thing to do is just walk in and have a look around at all of them. Go early afternoon as not many of them seem to be open late morning.
I didn’t really check prices of cameras but I know film seemed to be more expensive than in Hong Kong. There’s a bunch of sportswear shops in there too that seem to sell cheap shoes and sports wear, mainly for running, soccer and hiking. I reckon from all these film camera shops in Singapore you should be able to pick up something good and there’s no need to go to any other area in Singapore to buy film cameras because Peninsula Shopping Centre has the best selection and variety of film cameras all under one roof.
Excuse the shit photos, take on my Google Pixel, which is ordinarily a great cellphone camera, but has a crack right through the middle of the camera lens!
