Rome, Italy

If it's not on your bucket list, it should be. Rome is one of the most amazing cities and lives up to all the hype and expectations.

Jeez it took some organising to get to Rome. Had to change flight and hotel and photo tour dates and turned into a bit of a nightmare but it was all worthwhile and I’d put this one down as an absolute must-visit at least once in your life.  When you visit a city like this, you have such high expectations before going that it’s almost impossible to live up to them.  Somehow, Rome lives up to all the promises and delivers a travel experience you simply can’t find anywhere else in the world, at least that I know of.

There’s so many things to do in Rome that my best advice is probably to drop the guide books and just spend 3 days walking around the city exploring.  Actually I do have some good tips to avoid the crowds and make the best of your stay – check them out here.  From the Coliseum to Palentine Hill to St Peter’s Basilica and many more, Rome is full of spectacular, iconic landmarks that never seem to fail to impress.  I’m not one for history, religion and am a bit of a peasant when it comes to this type of thing, but you don’t need to be to appreciate the incredible architecture and sights that this city has to offer.

Is it a city I’d go back to? For sure. I don’t think I’d go back my myself but when Grobbler’s a bit older he’d love it.  I saw a few bored kids there and honestly it’s probably not a great place to take younger kids but if your kids have travelled a bit, even younger ones Like 5-7 yrs) will appreciate how unique Rome is. There’s very few (like maybe 1 or 2) activities specifically for kids so if you take them you’ll need to have your best “make up a game our of nothing” cap on.

Read our info pages to go inside Rome and see why I think this is one of the best cities in the world to visit.

I saw a shitty looking Starwood about 25 minutes out of the city but that looked like it was about to fall down.  Anyway, the Colonna Suite Del Corso …
