Colonna Suite Del Corso Hotel Rome

Overall a nice little hotel in a great location about 2 minutes walk from the Pantheon

Before I start in on Colonna Suite Del Corso, you should know there’s fancy Ritz Carlton’s or any major (or otherwise) hotel chain or brand in the centre of the city. I saw a shitty looking Starwood about 25 minutes out of the city but that looked like it was about to fall down.  Anyway, the Colonna Suite Del Corso is in a great location, about 2 minutes walk to the Pantheon and 3-4 minutes to Trivoli Fountain, and pretty much couldn’t have asked to be in a much better location.  There’s also shopping within a few minutes, loads of restaurants nearby (but not matter where you stay there should be loads of restaurants nearby as they’re all over the city) and if I was stay in Rome again, I’d try and stay somewhere near this location. Before I start in on Colonna Suite Del Corso, you should know there’s fancy Ritz Carlton’s or any major (or otherwise) hotel chain or brand in the centre of the city. Colonna Suite Del Corso Hotel Rome - Room

Colonna Suite Del Corso hotel is alright, pretty much what all nicer hotels in the central city are, small family businesses. Now to the actual room in Colonna Suite Del Corso. It’s small, looks quite modern, the bathroom is rather small as is the shower, but not overly tiny. There’s a good rain shower but the drain was blocked so you end up showering in half a foots worth of water. That annoys me as I’m a shower guru.  There’s a forever changing color light in the shower, kids will like it but you feel a bit like you’re in a sex hotel.

The bed is rather hard and not that comfortable, but not enough to stop you from having an okay sleep.  The pillows are alright though, much softer. For some reason they kept insisting I had booked for 3 people, which they still couldn’t quite work out despite showing up by myself.  Anyway, there was a rollaway bed in there that would have made the room bigger but I dumped all my camera gear on there so no worries.  The view is a bit shit at Colonna Suite Del Corso, basically looking out across the next building, but that appears pretty standard for most hotels in Rome, I don’t think any or many of them would give you any views of anything decent due to the way the city is, and not any fault of the hotel.

Colonna Suite Del Corso Hotel Rome - Room

One downside of Colonna Suite Del Corso is the noise, or rather lack of noise proofing. There’s a big gap under the door and you can hear everything going on out in the hallway, and I suspect anybody who was on the outside could easily hear what you’re doing inside.  Luckily I was too tired to be knocking one out but if my advice would to keep the shagging to a minimum, or perhaps role play and the noisy one can wear a ball gag to keep you quiet.  I’ve gone quite a way off subject here!  I was so tired most of the time it didn’t bother me, and I didn’t have noisy neighbours so that also helped.  I never got woken up by any noises but the small amount of time I was in the room during the day you can hear everything happening in the corridors.

Colonna Suite Del Corso Hotel Rome - RoomThe staff are excellent at Colonna Suite Del Corso, very friendly and more hospitable than I found most of the locals in Rome to be. The only bit of a pickup was cleaning the room, first day I was out from 4:30a.m in the morning, came back around 3p.m and the room still wasn’t cleaned. Went out again, put the please tidy my room sign up but came back and was still not done. I was too tired to worry about it and jus crashed out.  Anyway if you really want to make sure your room is cleaned, I’d be sure to tell the front desk. I was up and out of the hotel around 5-6a.m everyday and their breakfast didn’t open until 7:30a.m so can’t comment on the food.  Around 7-7:30 a lot of cafes open anyway and you won’t have to walk far to find one.

Colonna Suite Del Corso Hotel Rome - What

Overall, Colonna Suite Del Corso was fine with a few minor flaws that didn’t bother me too much.  Not sure if I’d stay here again though, the best thing was the location and staff, but the actual room wasn’t that great. There was even a bit of mould or something on one of the walls (see picture below) that they could have done something about but have just left. It’s not bad, but the very high rating this gets on booking.com and other sites I suspect are due to the staff and their friendliness.  Colonna Suite is definitely not a dive or dump, but it’s got a bit of room for improvement.

I took the hotel car from and to the airport which was 50, taxi’s are apparently about $45 and sometimes not that reliable.  It’s a nice Audi and probably worth paying the extra fe dollars to have a bit of peace of mind and not f around with a taxi driver who might not know the hotel.
