Spent 3 nights in Komodo National Park Indonesia in May 2019, It’s a bit of a mission to get there from Hong Kong, and from most places, but it’s worth it and because of this, it’s less crowded than nearby Bali and the snorkelling is the best of any place I’ve been to. Corals haven’t been destroyed as they have at more popular places and the number and variety of sea creatures you’ll see is incredible including loads of tropical fish, manta rays, stingrays, cuttlefish, sharks and sea turtles.
I’d go back to Komodo National Park Indonesia just for the snorkelling alone. Of course the star attraction is the Komodo Dragons. Whilst it was good seeing them, somehow I had in mind hundreds of them roaming around on beaches, which is not the case at all. You can read more about the tour to see the Komodo Dragons on Rinca Island in our things to do in Komodo National Park guide.
There’s actually not that many things to do in Komodo National Park Indonesia but what there are, are awesome. Komodo Dragons, Flying Foxes, Snorkelling, Diving, stunning vistas, everything was awesome. It’s not a place you could spend weeks at, and probably for most people 3 days and 3 or 4 nights is enough, unless you’re a massive diver, then I guess you could spend more time there.
Overall, I’d have to say Komodo National Park is one of my favourite places due to it’s remoteness, lack of tourists (that won’t last long), friendly people and awesome things to do. If you’re thinking about going there, definitely give it a go but make sure you visit during the right season because the rainy season could make it a completely different destination and many of the best things to do may be unavailable due to rough seas.
There’s a good article here about Komodo National Park Indonesia and how many tourists are visiting. Get there before it’s too late and the place becomes ruined from over tourism.
