Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class

Overall a pretty good flight with the exception of the food, which seems to be in decline and probably part of cost cutting measures.

Got a Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class tickets using Asian Miles, which is a miracle as Cathay makes it increasingly difficult to redeem tickets.  I can understand why. Hong Kong has one of the most transient affuent populations in the world and the amount of people racking up hundreds of thousands and even millions of miles is becoming more and more.  Anyway, got 2 tickets to Bali using Asia Miles, primarily due to the fact that not anywhere near a holiday.

Seats

You check into Cathay Dragon at Row H at Hong Kong Airport Terminal 1.  Economy class line was a bit long but nothing unbearable. Luckily we can go through the Business/Marco Polo Club counters which rarely have any lines at all.  Despite Cathay Pacific being abit of a rip off these days, I must say in all the times I’ve traveled with them over the last 6-7 years, I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than a few minutes and have never had more a few people in fromt me.  More often than not you go straight to a counter if you’re a Marco Polo Club. Obviously hiring more staff costs more money and this is why budget airlines like Hong Kong Airlines often have massive queues.

Anyway, despite mentioning all this, we didn’t actually even go to the counter and instead used the self check-in kiosks, which I hate doing, because like online check-in, you always hold up the line when getting on the plane because they still need to check details in your passport or something. Not sure exactly what.  So even if we do check on online, we end up going to the counter to avoid holding up the queue. It’s called consideration! Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class Flight KA350 was pretty much on time, flight was pretty full, surprising for a midday Thursday flight that’s nowhere near a public or school holiday.  As usual and what is pretty much unavoidable these days, there are screaming and yelling Mainland Chinese all around is. Unfortunately no matter where you go and with the amount of Mainland Chinese now living in Hong Kong, you’re going to encounter this.  This is a pair of noise-cancelling earphones are vital on any flight out of or into Hong Kong.

Airline Food Cathay Dragon

The Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class seats are pretty standard. Fine for Grobbler and I as we don’t need much space.  TV’s are the older smaller screens. Movie selection was pretty limited with not many new releases. Same for TV. No big deal for us and these days I’m mostly working on flights and Grobbler prefers his reptile or sea creature documentaries or Dude Perfect which is downloaded on his Tablet. (which by the way, is 5 yrs old and still works fine for him) Food on Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class was, like most economy class food on Cathay flights these days – rather rank.  You get the usual two choices of chicken with rice and fish with something. The fish is usually rubbery so both of us went for Chicken with Rice.  I call it Chicken with Vomit. Ok wasn’t that bad, edible (just) and both of us ate most of it although we got into the snacks quickly after.

Flight HK to Denpasar

Staff on board Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class were good.  Polite, friendly and better than most other crew I’ve come across on recent Cathay flights.  Bring a light jacket or ask for a blanket as they pump up the air-conditioning during meal service (as they do on most flights, I presume to get the smell out) and it get’s a bit cold.  Although we were both in shorts and t-shirts for the whole flight, most others were under blankets. Overall the flight was fine, no need for business class as the total flying time is only about 4 ½ hours.  I’d fly Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class again happily, jus make sure to bring loads of snacks because the good, as is the case with most airline food, is crap. Cathay used to be good but probably cost-cutting measures has meant they’ve had to go for cheaper food I presume.Cathay Dragon Hong Kong to Bali Economy Class

Oh, we had seats 25A and 25C, it’s a 2-4-2 configuration and they are shit seats because you don’t get a proper window.   The window is forward so if you want to see out it, you have to lean forward. There’s no window where there’s normally a window. It’s a bit weird. Not the end of the world but don’t choose this row if you can avoid it.
