With Villa Song Saigon, we went 2 for 2 in terms of hotels in Ho Chi Minh. Villa Song Saigon is smaller boutique hotel with only 23 rooms situated in district 2 and away from the madness of the city center. It’s a completely different vibe and atmosphere then being amongst it all and a bit different than your brand name hotels like Peninsula, Ritz Carlton or any Starwood property. There’s no lift, but there’s only 3 or 4 stories so you have to deal with that, no biggie. The staff will take your bags up to the room for you so if you’re anal about that kind of thing no need to panic.
The Villa Song Saigon is right on the Saigon river, you’ll read about the “stunning views” of the river from not just this hotel but in any review of Saigon but really, the river is dirty, smelly, polluted and there’s nothing stunning about it. This isn’t really anything to do with Villa Song Saigon, just a side note. There’s a nice seating area where you can eat on the river, it can get rather hot so they’ve also got this indoor eating area that’s a bit sterile but you’ll head for the air-conditioned comfort of that pretty soon if you go during the hot months.
There’s not much to do around the Villa Song Saigon, the hotel has a boat that can take you places but it doesn’t go that often so you’ll be using taxi’s to get around. There’s a little, I don’t know what you call it, cafe type place down the road that has some birds and fish and turtles that kids can feed so check that out. We only stayed a night here on our way back to Hong Kong from Danang so can’t really say too much else. The rooms are nice, bit of a weird layout, you walk into the bedroom which is a bit dark, from the room door, then you have the bathroom, which is quite small but adequate enough, then a living room/lounge room with a nice view overlooking the river. I wouldn’t call it absolute luxury, but it’s exactly what it is, a nice boutique hotel.
