United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong

Not the best but far from the worst business class I've been in. If you can do it on air points/miles, it's worth a go but not if you have to pay for it.

Seats 11A and 11N again on United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong, these are the last seats in business class and separated from economy by a see-through curtain.  Out the window your view is mostly impeded by the massive engine, so if possible, I’d choose another seat nearer the front of the plane.

United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong - Polaris Lounge

You get a fast rack access through immigration which is good and saves you the hassle of lining up behind hundreds of others. The Polaris Lounge for United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong is actually quite nice but the food in there is rather shite, a slim selection of some horrible snacky type foods.  To be fair, when leaving the lounge, I discovered you could sit down a restaurant and order something “fresh”.  Had we discovered this first we would have tried it.

It’s basically the same plane as the one we flew from Hong Kong, so not much different going on here.   One of the crew is really nice while the more senior one looks and acts like she doesn’t want to be here.  This is pretty typical for United Airlines and in general the United States. People seem to have a chip on their shoulder, which I guess is understandable having Trump as your President.

Anyway, had four choices available for a meal on this United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong, unlike the flight coming over, we could actually choose any of the four, and chose the beef rib and Grobbler chose the Shrimp.  Both were pretty rank, and as expected. About as good as you get on Cathay Pacific Economy flights. There was a pretty sorrowful attempt at Garlic Bread, the mains weren’t much better.

My beef rib was sweet, and tasted like something you’d find in a cheap diner.  Ok for airplane food, but for United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong you expect better than this. Grobbler mowed down his Shrimp and loved it, which isn’t saying much as he scoffed down 7 hot dogs in 2 days in New York and loved them too.  They do however have a good caramel sundae, which is large and rather good, and the best thing on the menu by a long, long way. At least we had more than a choice of vegetarian noodles and satay chicken, which was all we got on the way over.

United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong advertise an express service, which does away with all the courses and just gets you your meal without the fanfare, which I specifically told the one grumpy lady we wanted, but not surprisingly we didn’t get it, and got the same service as everybody else.  That pissed me off a bit, I mean I told her specifically, and she didn’t bother to tell the very nice/much more friendly guy who ended up serving us dinner. No big deal but if you’re forking out for the far you should at least get small things like this.

If it wasn’t for this absolute sour puss on United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong who hasn’t even so much as had a glimpse of a smile, the staff on board were actually pretty good.  It seems the older they are the more they feel comfortable acting like total bitches and somehow feel they don’t need to provide any form of service because they’ve been crew for so long. Again, it was really just one bad apple.

United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong - Appetiser

In economy, they only serve a sandwich and candy, then a meal an hour before arriving.   They’ll be starving and apparently that was a change announced. Flight was delayed by 30 minutes due to the maintenance trying to figure something out with the electricity.  Despite this, a Chinese family showed up about 20 minutes after the scheduled departure so not sure what was going on there.  Don’t know why they wait for late arrivals, if 99% of people can manage to get themselves to the plane on time, I don’t understand why they have to wait for the most selfish, inconsiderate people in the world.  Well of course it’s because of their baggage, but still, I say leave them behind.

United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong - Bedding

United Airlines Business Class New York to Hong Kong is a bit of a bastard of a time because it leaves at 3:15p.m, which gives you around 6-10 hours awake time, then you start feeling tired and sleep some of the way, then arrive around 7-8p.m at night, which is morning time in the USA, so it really takes a while to adjust.  Flying this route not sure there is a good time to fly so nothing against United here.

I didn’t pay for this flight, and I definitely wouldn’t pay for it again.  The value received here on United Airlines Business Class is poor. I’d say it’s not much better than Air India Business Class, but way behind Cathay Pacific or Thai or Singapore, although I haven’t flown the laters’ business class for quite some years.
