Flight UA180 is United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York. We had seats 11A, 11B, which are together, and 11D, across the aisle in a 2-2-2 configuration. United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York is less than half the price of Cathay Pacific and as usual, it’s basically a waste of time even trying to get a flight on Cathay Pacific using Asia Miles.
Checking in to United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York was easy and the check-in staff was nice. We didn’t have seats together but she was nice enough to change someone else’s seat to get us seated together. Before you check-in there’s a clueless security guy who I presume is told to ask you questions like what is your job, how long have you been doing it. Ordinarily this kind of pointless questioning would get my hair up but he did it so awkwardly it was comical.
Anyway, all good at Check-in. United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York was scheduled to take off at 10:35, and left about on time. Quite unusual for a mid morning flight out of Hong Kong in my experience. Seats are alright, comfortable flat beds, not that wide though and if you’re sitting next to someone you don’t know there’s not much privacy. This is the good thing about Cathay (and probably part of the reason why you pay more) – you’re in your own little world and each seat is well blocked off from the others.
You get served lunch, and breakfast, strange they dont’ serve you dinner. For lunch, there are four choices, Beef Tenderloin, Chicken, Vegetarian Noodles and Salmon. However, by the time they got to us, only chicken and noodles were available. This is piss poor. For one, if you’re gonna fork out for Business Class you at least expect you’re going to get what you want food-wise. They really should know that between those choices, 90% of the men are going to choose.
The crew, or should I say one cabin crew, wasn’t apologetic at all and basically gave a take it or leave it attitude and had the “you’re shit out of luck, it’s not my fault” look on their face. Thank god she shifted aisles and were actually served dinner and attended to by somebody much nicer. Again, if you’re paying around USD$4000 for a business class ticket, you’d normally expect the airline could afford to have a few left overs. There’s a tiny bowl of peanuts served, tastes alright but you eat about 10 bowls, not one tiny one. They must be really saving money.
I had the chicken and Grobbler had the noodles. Chicken skewers were mediocre, edible and actually quite tender. Grobblers vegetarian noodles were worse, he had a few bites before deciding they were totally rank. I tried them and don’t blame him, they were horrible. Luckily I bought some good old Kiwi Maggi Chicken Noodle Soup, got a cup of hot water and he scoffed down about 5 rolls of bread for that.
The appetizer on United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York was some parma ham, not surprisingly that was mediocre, and a salad, which, you guessed it was pretty average. Got a rather large bowl of ice cream for dessert which had some nice caramel sauce on it. Packet stuff but alright nevertheless.
Movies were pretty crap. There’s 65 new releases but most movies have multiple versions so in actuality there’s probably about 20 new releases. Didn’t even bother with the other movies as I’d downloaded a bunch of shows on my laptop and had some work to do anyway No big deal for me because I always have a laptop full of TV Shows, but it’s a lean selection at best for entertainment on United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York.
Also, on this United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York flight, my headphones never worked. Something wrong with the socket outlet. Again, not really a problem for me but for most people who want to watch some movies, you’re going to be shit out of luck. To be fair, I didn’t tell or ask the cabin crew if they could fix it, but it was one of those issues where if you stuck the socket in hard enough, sound would play so it’s unlikely they would have been able to do anything about it.
The crew on United Airlines Business Class Hong Kong to New York Flight UA108 were overall pretty good. Nothing outstanding, but polite enough and good with any requests. Again, it was really only the one larger lady who gave us a bit of attitude when we first got on and ordered the lunch. Outside of her, crew were perfectly fine without knocking your socks off with service.
One last thing I found weird was the entire trip we were told to keep the window blinds down so the entire 16 hour trip you’re basically not allowed any daylight. Upon landing we waited 30 minutes because the gate was occupied.Never encountered that at any airport in the world. Perhaps it’s a US thing. As expected, waited over an hour at US Immigration, absolutely diabolical and one one the reasons why I no longer travel to the US. Obviously not United Airlines fault and nothing they can do about either of those.
