Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong is a newly opened mini golf centre in Causeway Bay. We’d been trying to get in here on a weekend morning for a couple of weeks but it’s always been booked out so presumed it was going to be quite awesome. The photos on the website make it look rather good so we had rather high expectations. Grobbler had a couple of days off school so managed to get in at 11:30 on a Friday, turned up and nobody there. On the Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong website they state 9,000 sq feet, which I don’t doubt, but only about half of that is dedicated to the mini golf, the rest of it is restaurant. You can booking online, $256 for 1 adult and 1 child, which is an absolute rip off and way (WAY) overpriced which I’ll talk about in a minute.
You go to the counter to register, there’s a super nice guy there who is helpful, polite and professional and explains everything. For some reason when booking online I thought the $256 was for 1 hour, but it actually only covers 9 holes, which might be slightly more acceptable if not for Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong biggest problem, and that is the size. The actual mini golf courses, there are two 9 holes, one called Coachelle and the other Palm Springs, are tiny, and each hole can be played in about a minute for 2 people. So basically unless you are super unco, you’re going to finish 9 holes in 10-15 minutes if there’s nobody around. This is why the $256 it cost for myself and Grobbler is a total rip off.
We had to play most of the holds 2-3 times at least which was no problem because there was nobody else there, but if you go on a weekend when I can only assume that the place is packed, you’re not going to spend more than 20-30 minutes at the very most for 9 holes. Grobbler really wanted to play the other 9 holes, so I grudgingly forked out for that, and I think, (can’t be sure) I was only charged for 1 person, which was a nice touch by one of the staff. Another 10 minutes later and we had finished, so we played around, again, because nobody was there.
The holes at Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong are ok, I mean as mentioned, quite small, and not really that exciting. Tp be fair, I’m a former golf pro and probably fancy myself as a bit of a mini golf guru, but for the average punter who has never tried mini golf, and if you’re a local looking for a way to spend an hour in Causeway Bay, I guess this would be alright.
Unfortunately we didn’t eat at the restaurant so can’t comment on that, but I had a quick look at the menu and it looked alright. It’s open from 11:30a.m – 1:00a.m Mon-Thur and Fri-Sat 11:30-03:00 and Sun 11:30-23:00. Not sure who’s going to be in there on a Friday or Saturday at 3a.m, but there you go. For a corporate event, Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong would probably be quite a good venue but I presume you’re going to be paying through the roof to rent that size venue out in Causeway Bay.
Would I go back to Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong? Highly unlikely and I definitely wouldn’t enjoy going in the weekend when they’d be hundreds of kids and I can imagine waiting a long time between every hole. Even if the price was cheaper, I wouldn’t be rushing back there anytime soon or far away in the future. Having said that, would I recommend Strokes Mini Golf Hong Kong? Well like I mentioned, if you live in Hong Kong and are looking for something to do, it’s probably worth a visit. If you have young kids they’re going to have a good time, but for that price, I’d rather go somewhere like Super Park Hong Kong, where you can spend much more time for not much more money, and have untold more options and things to do.
