The Stamford Plaza Brisbane is in a good location by the river, close to shops, restaurants and easy access to expressways to get to places if you hire a car. This hotel is showing its age a bit, the room we were in you could hear every time someone had a shower, turned on the taps and you could also hear, very clearly, the people in the connecting room (with door closed). Thankfully they were getting ready to go out and the poor sod either lucked out or they ended up having a bit of a pash outside the room (or they were very quiet love-makers). Regardless, the hotel’s not shabby by any means, it’s just a little bit like Sharon Stone – still quite good but in it’s day I’m sure it’d have been much nicer.
Breakfast at the Stamford Plaza Brisbane was pretty mediocre, ordered some eggs the first day which never came, then took almost half an hour the next day so the remaining days we walked down to Eagle Pier which has a much better breakfast and much faster. Were told our 4 year old son ate free at breakfast but were charged. Most of the staff at the Stamford Plaza Brisbane were excellent, friendly, particularly the Head Concierge who was very helpful with my 5,000 questions. He was a kiwi so I’m probably biased but if you need anything, he’s your man. One other issue was the cleaning of the rooms, which wasn’t done until 1p.m one day, and still not done until about 3p.m the next day, despite leaving the sign on the door since about 830a.m.
I find that most hotels downunder are quite a bit behind Asian hotels, and the Stamford Plaza Brisbane is no exception. There’s nothing so bad that you wouldn’t come back and go ape shit on TripAdvisor, it’s just an okay hotel in Brisbane without too many bells and whistles. Fine for a week stay, beds are fine, shower is fine, everything is “fine”, without blowing your socks off. Overall it wasn’t a bad stay here. I’d probably go back and stay here again, but won’t be telling all my mates about it. If they asked how it was and said they’ve booked it already, I wouldn’t turn them away, but at the same time I wouldn’t be saying “great choice mate”. If you’re planning on staying here and want to know if it’s any good, you’ll be fine, go ahead and book it.
