The Somerset Hotel Male is quite nice and a good choice if you have a late night arrival flight or early morning departure flight from Male Airport and need to stay a night in Male city. Male city itself is nothing special, not much to see or do here with the exception of some crap, over prices souvenir shops and a fish market and a mosque. Other than that, I can’t see why you would want to stay more than 1 night in Male, and most people only do so because they have late arriving flights or early morning departure flights. If you really insist on seeing the city, then the Somerset Hotel Male is a good choice.
The rooms are a decent size, we had a little living room in ours so plenty of space, shower was fine, bathroom more than ok and the Somerset Hotel Male is a decent little hotel by any standards. You’d be comfortable staying here for a week if you had to, so nothing much to complain about and not any major negatives about this male city hotel

It’s clean, relatively cheap, and in a quiet street that’s walking distance to the boat jetties, some markets and there’s quite a few restaurants around. The hotel gives you a guide to take you over from Male Airport and make sure you get to the Somerset Hotel Male ok, which is needed because without a guide, good luck getting there. The guide will probably take you to a restaurant where gets a kickback, but I guess if you want you can just choose one yourself and see what happens. There’s not many restaurants around, we went to an Asian one and the food was pretty bad, not so bad that you couldn’t eat it, but McDonalds would have been better.

Anyway, the Somerset Hotel Male is more than acceptable but as I’ve said before, there’s really no need to get a hotel in Male city unless you absolutely must have some decent accommodation. For the time it takes you to wait for the speedboat, the hassle of taking suitcases and kids and bags over on speedboat, getting in a taxi for a few minutes, unloading then doing it all again on the way back over, I much prefer to slum it for a night and just get one of the Male Airport hotels, like the Airport Alba Inn.
