Rangefinder HK is one of the newer film camera shops in Hong Kong. They sell usually mint condition film leica’s and mostly new or near new digital Leica’s. I’ve been on rangefinder.com’s website a number of times but didn’t buy anything from them because they seem to stock a lot of new (and every expensive) Leica Lenses and camera’s. You won’t find a beat up Leica in here, the vast majority of used cameras they do have are true mint condition. To me, Rangefinder HK is where you go to buy Leica digital. In a massive contradiction, and ironically, the only thing I’ve bought from Rangefinder Hong Kong is a Zeiss 50mm 1.5 Sonnar ZM for my Leica MP. This is basically because this the only place that carried it I could find and I shopped around and messaged a lot of film camera shops in Hong Kong before deciding to ask these guys.
My overall opinion of Rangefinder HK is a positive one. For one, they do what very few other camera shops in Hong Kong do, and that is reply to emails in a timely manner (within 24 hours). Rangefinder Hong Kong are reasonably easy to find and near the TST MTR (check them out in my Film Camera Shops in Hong Kong Map). The guy who I’d been in contact with wasn’t in but there was an elder guy (maybe his Dad?) who was extremely friendly and happy to chat with you. The price of the Zeiss lens I bought seemed to be reasonably, about the same as you would find buying in the USA and cheaper than if you actually did because I didn’t pay shipping costs.
The fact that Rangefinder HK not only replied to an email, but replied in what I would consider “normal” time means you can deal and communicate with these guys easily. The owner seems to know his shit and being a bit younger than the typical film camera shop in Hong Kong, Rangefinder HK seems to be run like a proper business. I’m pretty happy with my 35 Summicron and 50mm Zeiss for my Leica MP so I don’t really have a need to buy more stuff at Rangefinder HK but as mentioned, if you are in the market for a new digital Leica or Leica glass, I’d have no hesitation in recommending Rangefinder HK. I can’t comment on their prices in detail but at a glance, they seem more than competitive and if I had an extra HKD$100,000 floating around and wanted the Leica M10 and Summicron ASH, these are the guys I’d probably go to.
