I love Output Pro Lab Hong Kong and only wish it was on HK Island otherwise I’d probably give them all my business (Update August 2017: They now have all my business, so far in 2017 I’ve shot 170 rolls of film and counting). Output Pro Lab Hong Kong is run by a guy and a younger girl (perhaps someone in the family) and he’s a really nice guy, as is she. I don’t go there much because of where they are, but whenever I do, at least I’m greeted and acknowledged and not made to feel like I’m intruding on them or being a burden on them (take note Dotwell Photo).
Output Pro Lab is not that easy to find, if you’re coming by MTR, get off at Prince Edward Station and walk about 5 minutes. Once there, you’ll see a small sign near the locked door saying Output Pro Lab Hong Kong. You have to push the buzzer, and a few moments later a key will be thrown down in a little bag for you to open up the door. The first time I went to Output Pro Lab I didn’t know this and spent a few minutes outside the door wondering what the fuck was going on! Some guy came out and showed me the little bag that had been dropped on the street which I then took another few minutes to figure out what the fuck to do with!
Output Pro Lab Hong Kong is a tiny little shop, but you will see a lot of film in his fridge including the holy grail Agfa Output Pro Lab Hong Kong also has the discontinued Fuji Provia 400X which I use a lot and have bought over 20 boxes (100 rolls) of the stuff. It’s HKD$165 per roll (that’s right per ROLL), but the results are amazing when you get the right shot and in the right light. Whenever I go on holiday I take a box of 5. Pretty much whatever film is out there on the market, Output Pro Lab Hong Kong has. Whenever I go in there there’s always students or someone in there and you can wait a while to be served but that’s ok, it makes a difference when the staff are nice.
They just started selling some new film from Germany, it expired in 2014 but the photos come out great. They also have Rollei VarioChrome, a limited edition slide film which I quite like and always have something hard to get or rare in there. It wasn’t up until a few months I tried there film developing service and it’s excellent. Prices are cheap, cheaper than Dotwell Photo and the quality is way better. Combine with this customer service in another league to Dotwell, and you have a winning formula. It’s simple, Output Pro Lab Hong Kong is the best shop to buy film in Hong Kong and get your film developed in Hong Kong. It’s out the way a little bit, but walkable distance from both Sham Shui Po and Mongkok, both excellent places for street photography in Hong Kong.
Whether you’re looking to develop film or buy film, Output Pro Lab Hong Kong is my pick of film developers in Hong Kong. Outstanding, friendly service, low prices and quality prints make Output Pro Lab Hong Kong my #1 pick. This is what pretty much every other film developer should aspire to in terms of service and if these guys were in a location with higher foot traffic they would put others such as Dotwell Photo out of business very soon.
When you get there say hi to Teeny (not sure how you spell her name, but it’s Teeny as in Teeny Bopper), she’s awesome – super friendly and efficient.
