The Nagoya JR Gate Tower Hotel is a bit like Nagoya City itself, a bit unforgettable. Hasn’t been that long since we stayed here but it didn’t leave any lasting impressions, good or bad. If you rent a car, the car park is a bit hard to find, even with GPS on, and Google Maps gets confused. The entrance is down the street a bit then you need to drive up a very hard to spot ramp and up to the hotel.
The rooms at Nagoya JR Gate Tower Hotel are perfectly acceptable, exactly what you expect from a 5 star hotel in Japan in this price range, nothing more, nothing less. Rooms aren’t the biggest but the bed is okay, bathroom is also a bit small but nothing too bad and liveable. Everything works and is in good condition. Again, perfectly fine but you won’t be raving it and or taking selfies of yourself to brag to your friends.
There’s only one restaurant here, I guess because of the location and the fact there’s lots of restaurants nearby. It’s nice though, you can look down through the windows at the city and it’s got this open plan feel to it. Food is alright, all locally sources ingredients, breakfast was fine, once again, ok but nothing out of the ordinary.
The staff are like everything else about the hotel, good but not great. They take the usual 10 minutes to check you in and check you out, other than that didn’t have much interaction with them, but they all seemed friendly enough and spoke good enough English. You’ll be fine staying here, no major complaints and with the amount of restaurants and shops nearby this is probably one of the best hotels in Nagoya for a tourist.
