The Le Meridien Angkor is located on Charles De Gaulle road a few minutes from Angkor Wat and the main city of Siem Reap, as well as a few minutes from the Angkor Wat ticket office. So basically a good location in between everything. It’s about 20 minutes from Siem Reap International Airport so no need to leave too early for your departure flight. Unless you come across an accident, even with a bit of traffic, it’s not going to take you longer than 20-30 minutes to get to the airport.
As with quite a few Starwood properties in places like this (resort towns in Asia), the Le Meridien Angkor is looking a bit worse for wear and could do with a bit of an upgrade. Reminds me a lot of the Sheraton Hanoi, which is also a bit rough around the edges. Check-in was fine, no problems, room was pretty ordinary, not bad, nothing special, bed was fine, had a pretty shit view looking over some yuck grass. Shower and bathroom all acceptable, just nothing to write home about.
They have this to say about themselves on their website “Le Meridien Angkor fuses European design and contemporary Cambodian subtle style. With 213 rooms, the hotel is calm, light and airy. ” Okay, I get the European design with contemporary Cambodian style, it’s basically a pretty ordinary looking building with a hint of some Asian-ness. Not sure about the calm, light and airy though – do they think of themselves as a tampon or sanitary pad? Perhaps they might build some wings soon. Anyway, as you can see, struggling for things to say about the Le Meridien Angkor.
Overall it’s fine, gets high reviews and ratings across all the major hotel review websites including Google and nothing to complain really. You’ll be fine staying here, food is alright, not the best in the world but generally acceptable. If I came back to Siem Reap would I stay at the Le Meridien Angkor again? Um…if I had to I wouldn’t be too upset but honestly I’d probably try somewhere different.
