The Langham Melbourne is probably one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in Australia. In a prime area of Southbank, it’s also got to be maybe the best location to stay when you’re visiting Melbourne – a few minutes way from the city and great views looking across the Yarra river back into the city. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Only stayed at the Langham Melbourne for 2 nights on a stopover from Hong Kong to NZ, as we usually do but would have been quite happy, not considering the price, to have stayed here for a week or longer. We got an Executive Terrace Room at the Langham Melbourne, which has a massive balcony overlooking the city. The room itself is not actually that big, nothing too small though and definitely nothing to complain about. Inside is about 39sqm and the balcony/terrace is about 45sq, so we spent most of the time out on that.
Melba Restaurant inside the Langham Melbourne serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, all of which are pretty good and pretty expensive, but not outrageously so. We’re not really foodies and I’m happy with a piece of toast or a couple of eggs for breakfast, mince pie for lunch and fish n chips for dinner, so as long as the good is edible, I won’t be complaining. It’s not the best food of eaten at a hotel but totally fine. You probably won’t eat there much anyway because there’s so many restaurants around the area it doesn’t really make sense to spend more money to eat something that’s not significantly better that what you get nearby. They have a ponsy afternoon tea but I’ve never been a fan of these 5-star hotel afternoon teas, everybody walks around with their noses in the air thinking they’re the Queen or Prince Harry because they’re spending 10 times the price on a scone that tastes the same as you could get a cheap cafe. But I digress…
Staff are excellent as they tend to be at every Langham hotel, everything is clean, tidy, tastefully done and if you’re looking for the best hotel in Melbourne, this might just be it.
