Checked in at the Kenilworth Hotel Kolkata for a night as I had to spend a day in Kolkata flying back from Bhutan to Hong Kong. Rooms are fine, clean, average size. View of a wall isn’t that great but I don’t think any hotel in Kolkata would have sweeping views of the city as that’s not what the city is about, or not what the attraction of the city is. Service was above average and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a dinner at the lobby restaurant at the Kenilworth Hotel Kolkata which was pretty average, perhaps I ordered the wrong things though, I’ve had much better Indian food outside India. Location is good, right in the center or Kolkata and where a lot of the action is, takes a while to get to from the airport, despite not being that far, I’d allow an hour and half from the airport to the hotel and an hour going back, more during peak time traffic.
The Kenilworth Hotel Kolkata has this to say on it’s website: “Our accommodation option includes exclusively decorated rooms and suites with the luxurious blend of modern amenities and the convenient comforts of princely decor”. I stayed in the cheapest room available which is an Executive Twin, but they have suites available so perhaps they’re more “princely”. So not sure about that but it’s more than adequate and I’d be happy (but not over the moon happy) to stay at the Kenilworth Hotel for 3-4 days. It’s popular with business visitors but convenient to a lot of Kolkata’s attractions and things to do, just note the traffic can get a bit diabolical in Kolkata so even though you’re not far from things in terms of distance, it can take you longer than normal.
If you’re looking for a good, reasonably cheap hotel in Kolkata, the Kenilworth Hotel Kolkata is worth visiting. I imagine there are better hotels in Kolkata but this a solid 4 star hotel with good service and staff and you’ll feel safe there.
