Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo

Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo was the first hotel I stayed at on my first visit to Tokyo about 6 years ago. It’s perfectly fine but for some reason reminded me of a shitty Hilton.  The rooms were a bit old but clean enough and perfectly acceptable unless you plan on spending most of your time in the room.

Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is right amongst the thick of things, about 10 minutes walk to Isetan in Shinjuku and there’s thousands of restaurant, bars, cafes, shopping within walking distance of the hotel.  Forget about the reviews on TripAdvisor, the latest one I read about was from, I hate to say it, a Kiwi, who thinks that the Japanese staff are going to understand what “cheap and cheerful” is, and includes a fact that homeless people are living 7 minutes away but that we wasn’t scared.  And this is the problem with 99.99% of the reviews on TripAdvisor – they’re from people who don’t travel much and have no clue about the country, the people, the culture and all of a sudden become experts because they’ve taken a holiday outside their home town for the first time in 40 years.  Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s not far from the truth.  Yes, there are some frequent travellers on there but the vast majority are infrequent and/or inexperienced travellers with too much time on their hands.

We’ve gotten a little bit of Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo here haven’t we!  Everything else was fine, it’s a solid 3-4 star hotel for a reasonable price (expensive if you’re not used to Japan prices) and the only thing I had to complain about was waiting an eternity to check-in but that’s pretty typical of even the best hotels in Japan.

You’re not going to get 5 star service, ammenities, or rooms or food here, but you’ll get exactly what you pay for, a perfectly fine hotel that the vast majority of normal people are going to find fine. If you’re after luxury or something nice, look elsewhere.
