The Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen is, if I don’t consider the comedic and crude attempt to copy the real thing, actually okay. There’s some hiking, boating (don’t know where or how you do that) and a couple of golf courses you can play. There’s also spa treatments but I don’t think you’ll coming out of them feeling refreshed and alive.
Here’s what the Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen says about itself: ” Consisting of three lush valleys, the scenic area makes for a pleasant green escape from the rigors of city life while still providing top-shelf luxury…”. And goes on “The Interlaken OTC’s main building, business villas and presidential villa are all built in a charming Swiss village style, and the substitution of green south China wetlands and mountains works surprisingly well with the Swiss look and feel.” The last bit cracks me up, “works surprisingly well”!
I don’t know why the Chinese feel the need to copy everything. If they hadn’t of tried to replicate somewhere that can’t be replicated, this would be quite a nice weekend destination away from Hong Kong but it’s totally ruined in their efforts to copy the real Interlaken. Let’s be honest here, no replica of Interlaken is going to attract many western tourists, especially in China. There is absolutely nothing here that makes me feel I’m in Interlaken. If they had built some villas built into the mountains with some traditional Chinese architecture, this would actually be good. I guess none of the locals would come here though.
Anyway, the rooms are okay, large and comfortable, big bathroom, nice view and not much really to complain about it in terms of the actual rooms. To be fair, there’s not a lot to complain about at the Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen, it’s just with such a sorry attempt to copy something in Switzerland you can’t help but feel disappointed all the while having a giggle at it all. There’s an amusement park that’s chocker block of people nearby, I suppose if you’re there, it’s worth taking a look but good luck getting in and getting tickets if you don’t speak Chinese. There’s massive lines to get in and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you could spend 2 hrs getting in only to find you’re in the wrong cue.
We played about 9 holes of the private course, which is supposed to be way less busy, but waited on every tee and packed it in after 9. A shame, because again, if they had any idea how to manage this course, it would be quite good. Unfortunately you get guys who can’t hit it out of their shadow taking 17 practice swings then proceeding to fat out abut 5 yards, then repeat the process all the way to the green.
