The first time we stayed at the InterContinental Danang it was for 1 night. We were booked for a 3 night stay but a situation happened on the first night, that at first, the hotel didn’t deal with very well. The InterContinental Danang since rectified the situation and compensated us in a way that we were mildly satisfied with. There’s nothing to stop me mentioning exactly what the incident was, but I feel if I was to tell it here, it might put a lot of people of staying here. It’s something that was unfortunate, and that I don’t think would be a regular occurrence, and mentioning it here could cause quite a bit of a damage to the InterContinental Danang and it’s reputation. It was dealt with, but we still needed to cut our trip short and had to fly back to Hong Kong the next day. Not a great experience when you have kids.
So, basically we ended up back here about 6 months later and stayed 4 nights, so this review of the InterContinental Danang is based on that stay, not the first. The hotel’s won some awards and has high ratings on pretty much every travel/hotel booking website on the web, so pretty high expectations. Without doubt, it’s a lovely property, nicely done, decorated with all the bells and whistles. We ended up taking Grandma and had 2 1 bedroom seaside pool villas on the rocks. You can check these out here. They’re 145sqm although a lot of that is balcony and bathroom. They’re not small by stretch of the imagination but the actual room and sleeping area is not that big. Everything inside is as you’d expect, stylishly done, bose sound system, excellent large shower and massive hot tub. The balcony is awesome, large and with a decent size private pool big enough that you don’t need to go out to have a decent swim. As far as villa’s go, they don’t get a whole lot better.
On our first visit 6 months previous, we ended up staying half a day in a 2 bedroom Royal Residence by the Sea (more on that here) which was absolute opulence and over the top. You think you’re lapping up the luxury in their basic villas, but when you see the Royal Residence Suite you realise you haven’t made it at all! Anyway, they have a number of over the top Villas and residences designed for people who make way too much money, you can check them out on the InterContinental Danang website.
The food is excellent, a number of different options for everybody and all appetites, and easy to get a table. Service is superb, all the staff are friendly and accommodating and will go out of their way to make you happy. The facilities are top notch, kids clubs, all the usual beach activities and other nice things for kids to do. There’s not a lot not to like about the InterContinental Danang with the exception of the weather, and that’s obviously beyond anybody’s control.
When we were there, it basically rained all the time, was windy, to the point of making the beach not swimmable, and at times was verging on cold so it made the stay less enjoyable. If this hotel were in any other location, I’d have no problems going to stay there again and can highly recommend it, but Danang just didn’t do it for us, so it’s a hard one.
If you catch the right weather, and don’t plan on leaving the hotel much, the InterContinental Danang is perfect. Yeah, there was quite a concerning incident on our first stay that the hotel must be held responsible for, but it was also a bit of bad luck, so I’ve given them a get out of jail card. If you’re thinking somewhere to stay in Danang, the InterContinental Danang should be at the top of your list.
