Everybody knows about the typical things to do in Orlando – Disneyland, Universal Studios, Epcot and the ten or so more amusement parks. They’ve been written about to death so let’s not rehash what everybody knows about already. I’ll just say they’re exactly as you’d expect. If you’re into theme parks and that whole experience, they’re not going to disappoint, apart from maybe the lines for the rides.  So what other things to do in Orlando are there?

First thing I’d do is head to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.  Marketing itself as the greatest space adventure on earth, it’s obviously all about space here and there’s some interesting and fun exhibits and shows to see.  I’d be doing everybody a disservice if I didn’t mention one reviewer on TripAdvisor who says “Even cried twice it was so “spiritual” being near where all of this happened” (their full review here). Unless you are a complete pussy (sorry about the language but there’s really no other way to put it!) I don’t think you need to bring extra tissues because you’re going to burst into tears every time you see Mars.  You can easily spend a day here, it’s a bit out the way but worth it if you or the kids are interested in space.

GatorLand – Some of the most boring creatures to actually see because a lot of the time they’re just lying there still and doing F all.  This is alright though and they’ve introduced something called Screamin Gator Zip Line where you can take off from heights of up to 65 feet and choose from 5 different zip lines ranging from 230 to 500 feet.  It’s actually quite cool flying across crocodiles and alligators at speeds approaching 50km/hr.  Check out their website here, not one of the absolute best things to do in Orlando but worth a trip if you want to get away from the amusement parks.

SEA Life Orlando Aquarium – About as original as visiting one of the amusement parks in Orlando, but it’s alright, the same old, same old dolphin shows, underwater tunnels and all the other sea creatures you expect find at most aquariums around the world.
