We wish we would have done a bit more research on Český Krumlov rafting before going because we definitely would have done the rafting down the Vltava river. In the actual town of Český Krumlov you see people having what appears to be the most relaxing time of their lives, not even having to paddle to move forward, and going at a pace where you can enjoy everything you go by. This is not white water rafting by any means, it’s sit back, have a drink and do nothing while floating slowly down the river.
Now, before I go on more about Český Krumlov rafting, there’s one post on tripadvisor about Český Krumlov rafting that has probably scared thousands of people away from it. It’s from an American lady who states she got thrown out of the raft and “thought she was going to die” and ended up having to get surgery back in the US. At the time, there were apparently warnings out that a particular section of the river was a bit hairy but from what I’ve heard, this is an isolated incident and by most accounts this woman would have had to have done something awfully stupid to be in that position.
All the other reviews on tripadvisor point toward what we saw, which was a very leisurely “stroll” down the river, absolutely no rapids and suitable for young kids as well as dogs! Driving out of Český Krumlov you can see people rafting for miles and miles and at pretty much every sighting, the river was like glass, no rapids and definitely no danger. Have some common sense people. There seems to be 3 or 4 Český Krumlov rafting operators, all of which have pretty high reviews and only one negative review from the lady who probably has never set foot in a boat.
