Tibet

There’s basically nothing to do in Tibet with kids and I don’t think I’d even consider taking Grobbler until he was say about 12, even then, he’d have to have a mature appreciation of culture and history to appreciate most things there.

If you’re one of those parents that has panic attacks every time your child gets sick, then Tibet with kids is probably going to cause you a heart attack.  I don’t think I’d want to be anywhere in Tibet, including Lhasa with sick kids, or anybody sick for that matter.  Grobbler got bitten by a rat in Da Nang and that was bad enough trying to get medical attention there (basically he ended up having 4 injections over the course of about 4 hours at about 1a.m in the morning) and I can imagine the doctors in Tibet being equally incompetent or more so.

Tibet with Kids

Another reason not to visit Tibet with kids is the food, you can read more about that our You Should Know This section but essentially, I don’t think many kids would be that into eating Yak yuk rice. (If you didn’t think there is such a dish, wait until you try it).  Even the food at the Shangri-la was pretty horrendous, so you’d really need to stock up on Goldfish, Percy Pigs and Pocky if you were going to Tibet with kids.

The altitude could be a problem in Tibet with kids (everybody reacts differently so now way of telling for use) but apparently kids are no more or less susceptible to it than adults. My guide told me most people are ok and there’s oxygen tanks in the van should you need them for kids. To sum up, if you really want to appreciate the culture, religion and all that Tibet offers, I think you’re better leaving the kids at home.
