Shenzhen with kids is about as fun and appealing as it is without kids. For lack of positive things to say about Shenzhen with kids, Grobbler will tell you a bit more about Shenzhen Safari Park.
There’s mixed reviews on Tripadvisor about the Shenzhen Safari Park, I thought it was quite good and would go back again but I’m a bit of a zoo guru and love animals. Well, not all animals, really just reptiles. There’s panda’s, lions, monkeys, polar bears and all that sort of thing, what I rather enjoyed was the bird and snake guys. You can get a snake around your neck and a parrot on your shoulder. When I went my reptile mode was not yet discovered but if I had gone now, I’d have loved it. And yes, you do need to pay them something (nothing is free in China bro).
We also took a ride in a caged vehicle where you can feed the tigers. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes, not too bad, they pile you on and the guy in the bus gives you some sticks with raw meat on them. You stick them out the cage and the tigers will jump up and eat the meat. Nice. This is probably one of the best things to do in Shenzhen with kids, but partly because there’s nothing else to do.
Apart from that, we didn’t do a whole lot at the zoo. As far as zoo’s go it’s okay, I mean, it’s like most zoo’s in Asia, some of the animals are kept in pretty atrocious conditions, but I’ve actually seen worse in Japan and it wasn’t the worst I’ve seen by a long long way. Some of the animals have plenty of space but if you really love animals and don’t like to see them looking sad in cages, this is not the place to go. (And definitely stay away from zoos in Japan, they’re worse if anything).
