To help you, here are some of the best beaches in Phuket that you can check out, there’s a lot of not very good beaches in Phuket, so spend some time researching what the beach is like near the hotel you choose.
If you’re young or think you’re young and want to party, Patong Beach is probably one of the best beaches in Phuket for you to stay near. It’s where all the action is, good and bad. If you’ve got family and want to be near the town and shops, this is the place for you.
Karon beach is smaller yet still has a little town and enough shops and restaurants to keep you busy. There’s a lot of larger resorts here, the beach itself is not that great so in those terms it’s not really one of the best beaches in Phuket, but for families who don’t travel a lot and just want a break it’s fine.
Kamala beach is where a lot of luxury and high-end villas and apartments are located, many of them belonging to expats in Thailand. Some travel sites call this one the most beautiful places in Phuket, but if this is the best Phuket has to offer, Kanye West is not a complete bellend. I found it very, very ordinary and wouldn’t give it more than a 6/10.
Mai Kao is on the North-west part of Phuket and being part of a national park, is one of the few beaches on Phuket still undeveloped, with the exception of the JW Marriott Phuket Resort (which is an excellent hotel). If you want to stay away from the crowds, stay here. It can get quite windy here so swimming is not great because of the large waves. For me, because it’s got the least amount of people, this is one of the best beaches in Phuket and worth staying at the JW Marriott.
For the same reason, I’d rate Nai Harn Beach one of the best beaches in Phuket. It used to be much quieter and I remember going here years ago when you basically had the beach to yourself. Gone are those days but Nai Harn Beach is still pretty quiet because there’s a limited number of hotels along it.
If you’ve never been to Thailand, I’ll forgive you for choosing to go there, but really, there are better places to go in Thailand, especially if you’re not going with kids. If I was to go back, I’d choose a remote or out of the way resort and just plonk myself down there and not leave. If you want to be in the mix, stay in Patong, but some areas are not suitable for kids (think Thai hookers hanging off the arms of 75 year old westerners).
