There’s public transportation in Miyazaki Japan, as there is all over Japan, but I can imagine it’d be pretty hard to get around unless you can speak and/or read Japanese, especially in a place such as this, where foreign tourists aren’t as prevalent. The Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort Miyazaki’s food is a bit crap, and expensive. We ate mostly at a nearby Aeon shopping mall, about a 10 minute drive. Don’t expect to find Chanel, Dior or many major brands of any sort, but there’s enough food options to make it worthwhile.
There’s only two direct flights to Miyazaki Japan from Hong Kong per week, one on Wednesday and another on Saturday, which make it perfect for a 3 night stay. They’re on Hong kong Airlines, which by the way, is notorious for having 1-2 hour check-in wait times, so make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time. We usually try and arrive about an hour and half before the flight at the airport for all flights, but with Hong Kong Airlines, they more often than not have massive slow moving lines so whenever we grudgingly have to take a Hong Kong Airlines flight, we arrive at least 2 hrs beforehand, usually longer to try and avoid the worst of it. Sometimes it’s unavoidable but just expect a long wait for check-in.
Yes, there are many other places in Japan that are “better”, with lots more to do, better food, and just better destinations, but if you’ve been to them all, Miyazaki Japan is definitely worth visiting, especially if you’re susceptible to crowd rage (there is such a thing, just ask me) because it’s one of the quietest and most laid back places I’ve been to anywhere in Asia. Yes, perhaps it was because we did the Wed-Sat and no public holidays in Japan, but regardless, I’d be back to Miyazaki Japan in a flash if given the opportunity.
