Bintan for kids is great, the beaches are excellent, the resorts are used to having kids around and the people, at least the staff in the hotels are very kid-friendly. If you happen to stay at the Banyan Tree Bintan, which I recommend, and are into lizards, you’re going to have a wicked time. There’s loads of little geckos all over the hotel, not to the point of being a pain and if you’re not into geckos, they won’t bother you. We had lizards on our balcony, and just when it was getting dark, some bats flew up high into the roof, again not bothering you if bats freak you out.
I picked up a baby gecko in our bathroom and thought I was Coyote Peterson. I’m with my Dad in that I think monkey’s are a bit stink, but most kids will appreciate the fact that we saw monkeys right outside our room on the rocks. One of them came up to our balcony and decided to take a slash in our plunge pool, which was not really swimmable anyway. We also saw squirrels and some frogs and tadpoles around the hotel. Bottom line is it’s an awesome hotel for wild life. Apparently they have some snakes too but we didn’t see any. Regardless, there’s loads to do at the hotel in Bintan for kids and this is one my favourite places of all time.
The swimming pool at Banyan Tree is awesome for kids, it’s got some steps so if you’re not a great swimmer or just learning to swim, it’s ideal. There’s seats with shade and seats without shade, and some of the pool gets shady at times throughout the day so you don’t get burnt alive. If you’re worried about things to do in Bintan for kids, no waka bro, as long as they like swimming you’ll be right.
The beach at Banyan Tree is excellent, nice sandy beach, warm water and ok for swimming, but what’s best is it has a bunch of big rocks and boulders that you can absolutely go whompo around searching for crabs, fish and other sea creatures. There’s also a board walk so if you’re a bit of a whimp and prefer to not get in the mix, you can walk above the rocks and still check out some fish. Niceeeeee!
Next door to the Banyan Tree is the Angsana Hotel, which is quite a bit cheaper but looks pretty good. Inside the Angsana Hotel is a kids club, it’s not the best kids club in the entire world, but it’s got enough games and things to do in there to keep you occupied for half a day. It’s free for Banyan Tree guests. The water sports center is also located at the Angsana Hotel, you can do banana boating, jetskiiing, snorkelling and all that type of stuff an the guy who runs that is a super cool dude. You’re not supposed to be able to use jet skis unless you’re 7 or 8 years old but he let me go with my Dad on a jetski. Unfortunately I didn’t think much of that as I got sea spray in my eyes most of the time and my plonker Dad didn’t bring my sunglasses.
Also at the Angsana Hotel is turtle feeding and that’s pretty cool. You get to feed baby sea turtles and I quite enjoyed that. Overall, there’s loads of things to do here, I even enjoyed the mangrove tour despite my Dad getting his knickers in a twist at some guy who kept us waiting. I think his name was Carl. You can check out his thoughts on the mangrove tour here. Overall, although there’s not a lot of things to do outside the hotel in Bintan for kids, there’s enough to do in the hotel to keep you busy so most kids will have a great time here.
