Bhutan with Kids

Bhutan with kids might be quite difficult, I left my one behind and this is one place that I’d say almost certainly, don’t take the kids, unless they’re much older.

The flights into Bhutan via Kolkata or Bangkok from Hong Kong make it a bit difficult to take younger kids to Bhutan.  You won’t find amusement parks, swimming pools, zoos or pretty much anything that you would usually expect to take kids too.  Bhutan is a place to explore on your own or without kids, in my opinion.  Older kids might like it but I can imagine visiting Dzongs, temples and being in the whop whops for a few weeks would get pretty boring, pretty fast for a lot of all but the most mature kids.

Bhutan with Kids

Yep, you could make up games and play cops and robbers and all that kind of thing if you really want to go to Bhutan with kids, but you’ll be missing out on the mystique of the place and I really think it’d be a mistake to visit Bhutan with kids, unless you’re absolutely sure they’re going to enjoy the culture.  Even on a short stay like I did of 3 days, I would have basically had to have spent the whole time trying to conjure up games and imaginary stories for Grobbler to be entertained and not really been able to appreciate it.  On a longer trip, which are usually trekking, it’d be worse, so I’d say kids in their teens might be ok if they’re really into nature and can appreciate a different culture.
