I don’t see any need to do a Bhutan Photography Tour, unless you’re really in need of some photo tips and want some company on the trip. Basically everywhere you go in Bhutan is a great photo opportunity, and you don’t need to pay thousands of dollars extra for a Bhutan photography tour to tell you the best places because you’ll be taken to them with a normal guide that in most cases will be much, much cheaper. The locals, in general are also happy for their photograph to be taken, no need to ask, on many occasions they’ll actually encourage you to take their photo, at least in my experience.
When you go to the Tigers Nest, go early, it’ll be shrouded in mist or clouds and make sure you’re in a good position (the first bit of the steps on the way down to the Tigers Nest) when it begins to clear. You can’t take photos inside the Tigers nest so go crazy with the outside pics. I also recommend climbing up the stairs to another monastery higher up which gives you a slightly different elevated view of it. The Tiger’s Nest is something you want to experience by yourself or with as few a people as possible, so that’s another reason not to take a Bhutan photography tour.
Photography everywhere else in Bhutan is excellent, always something interesting to take but make sure, as usual, you take your eyes off the viewfinder and just take in things without a camera in front of your face. This is one place I’d take all my lenses, wide, medium, telephoto, film and digital, filters, tripod, the works, there are so many different things and people to photograph, you’ll regret not taking everything you have.
