I-M-age Playground Camera Shop Hong Kong advertised a Nikon F3 on price.com, I went to have a look, the condition wasn’t anything like it was on the website, the mirror was broken (had chips out of it and it was in generally shit condition. On top of this, the price they gave me in the shop was higher than what it was on the website. I could have forgiven them for that if not for the next piece in the puzzle. I ordered some film off them online, only for the fact I had some Paypal $$$ i wanted to use. They had advertised on their website some Agfa Scala 200X, which, yes I know is expired and a bit like finding treasure or Jessica Alba naked on your bed when you get home after lucking out after a night at Lan Kwai Fong.
I purchased that and some other film, everything went through at checkout ok. The film showed up in the mail a few days later but instead of Jessica Alba, I got Kate Winslet – some Adox Scala, which I was informed by 2 different places is not the same as Scala, despite I-M-age Playground Camera Shop Hong Kong telling me it was. Now to be fair, they gave me a refund for that, but I would call those two issues deceptive business practices so I would not recommend I-M-age Playground Camera Shop Hong Kong at all. It’s a shame because they had a few good cameras in there. I get the feeling they cater to a distinctly local market and as usual, weren’t particularly happy about seeing me, or me asking about any of their cameras.
I-M-age Playground Camera Shop Hong Kong also offer workshops for developing film but emails go unanswered so it’s quite obvious to me that these guys don’t really care about the English speaking market. I-M-age Playground Camera Shop Hong Kong is yet another example of a film camera shop in Hong Kong that just hasn’t grasped, and has no clue about, the concept of customer service. When are film camera shops in Hong Kong like this going to learn? Probably never, it’s built in to the Hong Kong Chinese psyche and it’s a rare thing to see any shop, let along a film camera shop in Hong Kong. If you must, check them out, they’re right in Central on the 3rd and 4th Floor of Queen Victoria Street.
