Just stayed a night at the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen, located nearer the Luohu side of Shenzhen and about 20 minutes in moderate traffic from the Huanggang border. We arrived at the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen about 12p.m, they had a room ready for us but it, like many smoking rooms in China, absolutely reeked of smoke. So much so we went out for lunch and asked for another room, which was much better (corner room) and has no smell.
This is the first lesson when booking any room in China, DO NOT BOOK A SMOKING ROOM unless you love the smell of cigarettes because many of the Chinese love to smoke, and chain smoke, so the rooms will reek of it. Anyway, other than that, checking in was ok, not the fastest but not the slowest. The room was large, which you’’ll find is typical of most 5-star hotels in China, not just the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen. Nice bed, and comfy soft pillows, and excellent large bathroom with separate rain shower and bath area. Nothing to complain about with the room and our room was one of the better ones I’ve stayed in in China. Being on the corner you get windows out the bathroom and full view windows from the bedroom.
Unlike many better hotels, easy to find and work the curtains and blinds. The rain shower is excellent with constant and easy to change temperature. This would be one of the better showers I’ve had at any hotel room I’ve stayed at. The Grand Hyatt Shenzhen is right beside a fancy mall with Gucci and those types of crap, there’s a fancy food hall and a nice Chinese restaurant inside and unless you’re money bags, not much need to eat in the hotel, especially if just staying a few nights. We were on the Executive floor and ate in the executive lounge for breakfast. Not the biggest selection but what was there was pretty good.
You get the obligatory egg station so can choose your eggs, and they had some nice thick hash browns and thick bacon. Asian breakast was also apparently quite good. Far from the best hotel breakfast I’ve had, but also far from the worst. Unless you’re really into super massive fancy breakfasts, don’t think you’ll be complaining. There’s much less people here at the Executive Lounge and if you eat downstairs you apparently get more selection but also have to deal with the crowds and noise that comes with eating at most hotels in China.
Overall, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen is more than satisfactory and you won’t be disappointed if you stay here. For more information on the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen, send us an email or ask us a question on Twitter.
