Stayed a night at the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka as we had to cut our Ishigaki stay short due to a typhoon hitting. This is the third or fourth time we’ve been to Fukuoka but one of the few time we’ve stayed in the city. We usually stay in the Luigans Spa & Resort.
The Grand Hyatt Fukuoka is right next to a big mall, Canal City. It’s a bit of a weird mall and not that great, has some okay shops but definitely far from the best shopping in Japan. However, if shopping is your thing, Hakata Station (where some decent shopping is), is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel so not all is lost.
Check in at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka was okay, bit slow but usual for Japan. The room is a good size, comfy beds but the sheets are a bit noisy! Can’t really complain too much about that though but if you’re really picky this might bother you. The bathroom is a good size and the shower was excellent, has a massive mirror in it so you can watch yourself shower, if that, or having a shag in the shower, is your thing.
Breakfast at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka was on the Executive floor and was pretty mediocre, as I reckon it often is on Executive Floors. Like most hotels, yeah, you get way less people but the selection is usually not as good and in almost every instance, I’d prefer to eat breakfast at the normal dining area. You get your usual sloppy scrambled eggs, pretty rank bacon and bread. Again, it’s not bad, just not great.
The Wifi at Grand Hyatt Fukuoka was almost non existent, signal strength is weak and when it does manage to connect, the speed is enough to play a YouTube video at 360p, which is about what you would get when on a dial up connection in the late 1990’s or older. I’m usually on data roaming in Japan and don’t tend to need wifi that much but if you rely on it, this is most likely going to be frustrating.
Overall the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka is totally fine and more than acceptable. Not sure I’d want to stay more than a few nights here, but unless you’re particularly fussy about your hotels then you should be fine.
