The Garden Hotel Suzhou looks really stunning in the photos on the web, as do most hotels, but as is the case with many things on the Internet, what appears and what is in reality, is something quite different. To be fair, I was expecting something quite luxurious with beautiful grounds in a traditional Chinese setting so had high expectations. They pretty quickly came tumbling down upon arrival.
The grounds are ok but about half as good as what some of the photos make it out to be, it’s in a good location, off a street with some restaurants and nearby a few attractions and things to see in Suzhou. Again, to be fair, most hotel photos look twice as good on the web as they do in person, but just be aware it’s not as nice as the photos suggest.
The rooms at Garden Hotel Suzhou are quite small, especially the bathroom. They have the obligatory sign saying hang your towels up if you don’t want then washed etc… Yet they wrap every towel, including hand towels, up in plastic. They also wrap the TV remote control in wrapping – absolutely ridiculous. See the below photos for the irony in it all!
Went to breakfast second day of our stay, nobody on the egg station and a guy dressed in a chef/cook uniform named (China) John was basically unresponsive when asking if we get could some help. This was on the first day of a major holiday in China so really no excuses. The day before my son and I asked for 2 ice creams, pointed to both of them, one lady walked away, the other one stood there doing nothing. Thinking the other lady had gone to get the bill or something we waited for 5 minutes before just giving up and leaving. The simplest of requests here go unanswered. Do not expect any type of reply when asking for something. The food in the restaurant was poor, and overall the experience was not a pleasant one and I wouldn’t go back to stay at Garden Hotel Suzhou and don’t recommend it to anybody, Chinese speaking or otherwise. Poorly managed and run and needs serious improvement.
