Not many people think of fishing in Bangkok with kids when they visit Bangkok but if you go to Bangkok a lot and want to try something different with kids, this is definitely worth a visit. If you google “Fishing in Bangkok” you’ll most likely found Tap from BKK Fishing Guide and another lake which is renowned for catching larger fish. They were responsive but didn’t see, that interested even after telling them I wanted to book a days fishing and a nights accommodation with them.
I hit up Tap from BKK Fishing Guide and he was much more helpful; and suggested another lake for catching catfish, which would be suitable for Grobbler, who’s now 7 years old and done a bit of fishing in Hong Kong and Japan. I was arriving around 5p.m on a Friday night and if you know anything about Bangkok you don’t want to try and get into the city during peak hour on a Friday night, which can take you an hour and best and more likely an hour and a half or more. So anyway I decided to stay a night near the airport, and on Tap’s suggestion stayed at At Residence Suvarnabhumi, and had a good nights sleep before fishing in Bangkok with kids.
Checked in on Friday night, went to the Siam Serpentarium at 9a.m on Monday morning, spent just over and hour there then headed to the fishing lake which was about 15 minutes away. I could give you the location of the fishing pond but you really need to speak Thai and instead I’d recommend you just get in touch with Tap who’ll provide all the gear and bait and you’re not responsible if your break the rod or anything. He speaks fluent English and is a big help and makes things pretty easy for you.
The Lake’s nothing fancy, locals fish in there and it’s catch and release. We took about 5-10 minutes before catching our first fish. Most of them are ideal size for Grobbler, 2-5kg, not easy to reel in but not so difficult that he couldn’t reel them in himself. Some were a bit of a struggle and took about 5 minutes to get in, so really good size for kids of that age. A really good start to fishing in Bangkok with kids.
Had a brief shower while fishing in Bangkok with kids here, but there’s a little house/shelter which while not having any walls, is fine to keep you mostly drive. Make sure you order the food here, it’s really good and they of course have lots of seafood. They have menu’s in English but they’re not that accurate. Apparently many Thai’s come here just for the food. The staff are nice and friendly and bike out to you with the food, which doesn’t take long. You can order drinks including beer and there’s a snacks shop there too. This is one of the best places for Fishing in Bangkok with kids.
Most of the guys here were after big ones, but compared to what we’d been catching in Hong Kong, even the smallest fish we caught here was big. This is probably not something you could get a taxi to and do it yourself, as number one there is no Thai name and I’m not sure if the speak English or you can even hire rods there.
